Healthcare Inventory Management Platform
Reducing infrastructure costs for a high volume API
A company running an inventory platform for healthcare facilities saw unpredictable API response spikes driving up costs and complaints. Ollon monitored logs and metrics daily through Azure Application Insights, tracing performance issues to their source. Response times have improved, spikes are less frequent, and the platform now runs on fewer server nodes than before.
Situation
A company running an inventory management platform for healthcare facilities was processing enough traffic that performance problems translated directly into high infrastructure costs. Their API had been experiencing unpredictable response time spikes and periods of instability that were directly impacting the facilities relying on the system. With complaints from end users increasing, they brought in outside support to diagnose and address the issues.
Solution
Ollon used Azure and Azure Application Insights to monitor logs and metrics daily, identifying sources of performance degradation and passing targeted recommendations to the appropriate teams. The distributed nature of the system meant issues surfaced continuously, and the engagement evolved into an ongoing collaborative effort to keep performance stable.
Results
API response times have improved across the board and the frequency of severe performance spikes has been reduced, with fewer server nodes now required to run the system. Ollon continues to monitor the platform, maintaining stability as the team works through issues as they arise. Current work includes evaluating custom logging and monitoring solutions that would further reduce infrastructure costs and allow potential issues to be caught earlier.
