Situation

The Nationwide Group provides comprehensive financial services software solutions to financial institutions, lenders and consumers in the real estate and mortgage industries.

Solution

Ollon was brought in to dive into the code and "rescue" the applications, currently running on the Cordova platform, which will soon no longer be supported. Two of Ollon's developers were tasked with deciphering the code, addressing various issues, and improving the applications to accommodate upcoming OS updates.

Results

Within three months, two out of four apps are up and running, multiple issues were identified and are in the process of troubleshooting, while a new platform is being established to replace the one running on Cordova, which will allow all applications to be sustainable.

Reverse Engineering and Source Code Recovery

With no repository access and no documentation to work from, Ollon's developers treated Nationwide Group's live mobile apps as the only source of truth, observing how each screen and feature actually behaved to infer the logic underneath. Each finding was documented as it was uncovered, turning scattered observations into a working map of how the applications were built and where their dependencies lived. That map became the reference the team used to make every subsequent change with confidence. The documentation created along the way is now the only record of how these applications work, since none existed before.
